The data from the Department of Health Service Support indicated that the market value of Thai medical industry worth 16 billion USD or 5.60 hundred billion baht. Thai medical comprehensive industry comprises 3 sectors, i.e. modern medical service, research and production of medical devices and pharmaceutical research for medical supply production. Most of the market value of Thai medical industry concentrated on medical industry, medical devices industry and pharmaceutical industry which could be classified as follows, the cost of medical service in hospitals about 3.68 hundred billion baht, medicine producing/or dispensary about 1.5 hundred billion baht, and producing and or selling of medicines and medical devices and medical supplies about 0.40 hundred billion baht respectively.

At present, Thailand has about 38,500 hospitals and clinics throughout the country, among these number 23 hospitals registered as public companies in the Stock Exchange, 182 hospitals have registered capital over 100 million baht, most of the investment belongs to Thai investors, worth about 115,231 million baht or about 98 percent of the total private hospitals. In 2016, the revenue of private hospitals were 232,421 million baht with the number of Thai patients at 93.5 percent, only 6.5 percent were foreign patients. The number of tourists and medical tourists accounted for 70 percent of the total foreign patients. The data from the Global Wellness Institute revealed that Thai wellness tourism ranked no. 6 among the global wellness tourism with the number of medical tourists at 38 percent of the medical tourists in Asia. The market tended to continually grow at 14 percent every year. It also estimated that Thailand would gain over 4 million foreign patients in 2017.
